4-star linebacker Jack Sanborn makes verbal pledge to Badgers

Quiet, but deadly — that is quickly becoming the Wisconsin Badgers on the 2018 recruiting trail. Less than two months after the 2017 national signing day and UW is halfway to filling its 2018 class.

An already strong Badgers 2018 class got even stronger, as 4-star inside linebacker Jack Sanborn announced his commitment to the Badgers on Twitter and reported by our recruiting partners at Badger247.

The latest commit also continues to bolster Wisconsin’s reputation for keeping things under the radar. Sanborn’s commitment was a surprise to many and it came against some of the strongest competition in the country.

He chose the Badgers over plenty of offers, but Wisconsin’s main competition appeared to be Michigan State, Duke, Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern. The combination of athletics and academics were a strong pull for Sanborn, with Duke, Northwestern and Wisconsin all in the mix late in this process.

That list shouldn’t be a surprise, as Sanborn is the No. 7-ranked inside linebacker in the country and the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Illinois.

He is also the highest rated player currently in the Badgers 2017 class. One look at his junior year film for Lake Zurich (Illinois) High School and it is easy to see why so many were after his commitment.

Wisconsin’s class continues to surprise nationally as well. Sanborn’s commitment moves the Badgers in to the No. 2 recruiting position in the Big Ten and the No. 10 class in the country as of today.

That is likely to drop as the recruiting season grows, in large part thanks to another small class expected to sign in terms of number. However, the quality of player rankings is likely to stay strong.

Sanborn is also the second inside linebacker to commit to the Badgers, following 3-star in-state prospect C.J. Goetz. Expect the Badgers, who are already loaded at the position for the near future to be done recruiting at the position as long as both make it to national signing day as Badgers.
