Player: Jake Whalen, LB
The University of Wisconsin had put the state of Wisconsin on a virtual lockdown for most of the past two-and-a-half decades. However, as of late players UW wants have been slipping out of the state to rival Big Ten schools from time to time. One player in jeopardy of being lost to a rival in the 2015 recruiting cycle is linebacker Jake Whalen.
Wisconsin didn’t even bother to offer under Gary Andersen, despite the 3-star rating and the kid receiving major attention from fellow Big Ten teams. However, new head coach Paul Chryst has come in with a greyshirt offer as of late and Iowa upped the ante with a full offer just before Chryst could get to the kid.
Having seen Whalen play in person once or twice before and seen his tape, he’s the typical player the Badgers and Hawkeyes would want. Namely, a player with raw athletic talent but a lot of work to do and a developmental project.
